Our low tox philosophies are led by Candice Bauer, a dedicated researcher with deep expertise in healthier products, materials, and home environments.
Through years of working alongside Candice in her low‑tox health business, BARE by Bauer, Matt developed a strong interest in construction methods that support long‑term wellbeing. That collaboration now shapes Blueprint’s design process—practical, builder‑friendly solutions that prioritise compliance, durability, and the creation of healthy, long‑lasting spaces.
How we guide clients through the low‑tox process
To make low tox building science clear and actionable, we break the service into three structured stages. This framework helps clients understand how each decision—from early design to long‑term maintenance—contributes to a healthier home. It also ensures builders and trades have a clear roadmap, and keeping the project aligned with the client’s health goals.
Phase One: Design with intention
The first phase focuses on thoughtful, informed design. We take the time to understand each client’s needs, sensitivities, and lifestyle so we can plan for the right systems and allowances from the start. This includes identifying suitable air purification strategies, humidity control solutions, and spatial requirements for saunas or other wellness‑focused lifestyle.
For example, we establish the exact model of infrared sauna early, making room based on the exterior product dimensions, and specify on the electrical plan where an upgraded power point should be to service it (Most Australian homes use 10-amp power points for standard appliances. Many 1-2 person infrared saunas plug into these standard 10A outlets, though larger models often require a dedicated 15-amp outlet for higher power).
By embedding these considerations early, we avoid costly changes later and ensure the home’s performance supports the client’s wellbeing from day one.
Phase Two: Preparing for the move‑in
As the build nears completion, we help clients transition into their new home with a low‑tox mindset. This stage includes decluttering, assessing existing furniture for potential mould contamination, and selecting new pieces constructed from low‑tox materials. We guide clients toward furnishings that minimise long‑term off‑gassing of volatile compounds, ensuring the healthy environment created during construction isn’t compromised the moment they move in.
Phase Three: Maintaining a healthy home
A low‑tox home performs best when it’s maintained with the same intention it was built with. We guide clients on establishing practical routines—changing water and air filters at the right intervals, choosing a vacuum with a high‑quality HEPA filter, and understanding how mould thrives so they can prevent it before it becomes a problem. These habits protect the home’s longevity and help families enjoy a cleaner, healthier living environment for years.
